Do you believe that we are living in the last days, and why?
by new light init has been a long time.. thanks to jw.org, i was reading some jw material (what does the bible teach i believe).
it was the first time reading a "book study" book in many years and i was blown away by the controlling, cultish writing.
this question especially struck me as manipulative: do you believe that we are living in the last days, and why?.

The Hapless Householder
by new light inthe stupid helpless householder is a classic jw archetype.
look at any example of an official jw presentation: the householder is frequently good-hearted, but mystified and disappointed by world events.
the helpless householder loves the bible, but has been mislead by the evil clergy and worldly attitudes.

LOL DD!
What kind of person actually would wonder on their own if God had a name? To me, that would show a complete lack of "spirituality." Who would need to put a name on the creative force that is beyond human comprehension? Someone who thinks living forever as a human is the ultimate prize, that's who.
The presentations are beyond silly. What a waste of everyone's time and money.

The stupid helpless householder is a classic JW archetype. Look at any example of an official JW presentation: the householder is frequently good-hearted, but mystified and disappointed by world events. The helpless householder loves the Bible, but has been mislead by the evil clergy and worldly attitudes. The JW superhero swoops in with a fountain of "accurate knowledge" and saves the day. The light goes on in the householder's thick head and eventually, with years of study, they might some day be blessed enough to also have a commanding grasp on the wisdom of the ages. This is how you create a smug sense of superiority in a high school dropout who wasted the best years of life. This is part of what keeps them coming back for more year after year through all the failed prophecy.

Looks like most of you did not read the post. It was about WT mind control through leading questions, not the merits of last days propaganda. DATA-DOG, zeb, and Crazyguy: Thank you for taking the time to understand my post.

Hi. It has been a long time.
Thanks to JW.org, I was reading some JW material (What Does the Bible Teach I believe). It was the first time reading a "book study" book in many years and I was blown away by the controlling, cultish writing. This question especially struck me as manipulative: Do you believe that we are living in the last days, and why?
A question that was not framed for the purpose of shaping your thoughts would have ended with "why or why not." The only way to correctly answer the JW framed question is to say you believe first, because it ends only with "and why."
The longer I am away, the more sinister this organization seems.

They are Definitely Attacking "Higher Education"
by XBEHERE ina friend of mine recently had his co visit and in the elders meeting the co out-right asked the question: how are the friends doing in your cong.
as regards pursuing higher education?
the co continued...you know in view of all the counsel from the slave regarding the dangers.

This is sad. It seemed like they were gravitating toward allowing higher education. Apparently the larger income and donations of the well-employed is not worth the inevitable exodus that would spawn from the knowledge provided in those damn general education requirement classes.
I am happy to say I started a state university education at 35, am set to graduate in a year with a 4.0, and will be working on a Ph.D in cognitive psychology after that. I am intending, among other things, to conduct studies comparing the psychology of JWs to random samples of non-JWs. Being a JW is so influential on one's cognition that they just might see the world differently in a quantifiable way.
A university education is much more than a ticket to a good job. When taken with a gratitude-informed awareness and presence, it is the key to a completely new set of eyes.

Would you pay $600 to see The Stones?
by littlerockguy ini can't believe the prices of concert tickets these days.
the rolling stones is starting their tour this year in los angeles tonight and some of the floor tickets are as high as $600!!!
they were in little rock back around 2005 or 2006 and the most expensive ticket back then for their show was $300.

by sd-7 ini was just reading some random memes and came across this one.
it's truly insane, but maybe my sense of humor is such that i laughed rather hard at quite a few of the ones using this photo.
i was thinking, how could i adapt this one to jws?

I Saw 2 Hispanic Witnesses On My Street This Morning & They Looked Afraid Of Me
by minimus inthey had book bags strapped to their shoulders.
they watched me as i turned my car around and i think they might have thought that i was going to clip them.
the younger 20 something year old man, raised his hand to acknowledge me as if to say, "hi and thanks for not hitting us".. they continued their s l o w "pioneer shuffle" and i went my merry way..

Not sure what "Hispanic" has to do with the story.
